Today, we went over the results of the previous Wednesday Challenge. Afterwards, I started working on my second cardboard car, the dimensions of which are on Dr. Neato's website. By the end of the period, I got most of the body done.
Today, I continued to work on the second cardboard car. I got the wheel holes cut out, and almost completed the wheels.
Today we started a Wednesday Challenge where we were tasked with making a boattail for a model rocket out of cardboard. Connor, Erin, Keilah and I made a group, but Dr. Neato separated us because he wanted all of the groups in the classroom to have a veteran. We started by using the formulas on the handout we received to work out the measurements of the pieces we would have to cut out, but since I ke[t on messing up, we ended the period with not much done.
Wednesday Challenge 8: BoattailsToday, we finished up the Wednesday Challenge. Since the formulas were bothering me a bit, I worked out all of the measurements at home, and came to class with everything ready to be drawn out. Since we didn't have a beam compass or anything o the sort, I used a piece of string and a cheap pen to make a ghetto compass, and it worked surprisingly well. We finished the baottail by the end of the period, and the seams were so smooth that at some places, I couldn't even feel the seams. However, because I had made made the pieces in the wrong order when number crunching, the boattail looked more like the graph of y=|1/x|. After school, I bought a secondhand Blackfencer longsword from an acquaintance in the local HEMA group for $50 as opposed to $120 if it was brand new. The sword felt a lot heavier than I had expected, and it felt really nice to give it a couple of practice swings. Since I didn't know too much about swordplay apart from a minute amount of gumdo we did in taekwondo, the guy who sold me the sword taught be a couple of basic drills to get me started.
Today, we went over the previous Wednesday Challenge, and then worked on our websites for the rest of the period. I didn't have my laptop with me today, so I had to use the really slow school laptops, which took a grand total of 10 minutes just to boot up and log in.
